Photography "A Way of Seeing"
Grows into Schools project

I wanted to say how great it has been to develop the Photgraphy sessions into a learning tool for school children. I recently delivered 4 afternoon workshops to yr 6 at Kirk Merrington Primary School.

Jeanette at Studio Pookini & Head Teacher Helen Wiliams arranged an exhibition of the children's work at the School.

Children, Parents, Governors and Parents came alonfg to support the children's efforts, the whole event was a great success. All the children received a certificate of completion for the workshops and were also given a disc of there work with comments and suggestions for further development (pardon the Pun!) of their art photography skills.

WE cover much of what I delivered to the art group and much more. The children were lovely, well behaved and worked so hard, producing many fabulous images. Thanks must go to Jeanette for all he work on administration and copyrights and to Chris Ruskin for being our sitting model but most of all WELL DONE! to the kids for their efforts!

PHIL’S PHOTO WORKSHOP

On Wednesday 16th March we had an inspiring session on taking photos. Phil brought along lots of photos that he’d taken to give us inspiration. After a talk on how to take a good photo (Remember the acronym SPLASH)we all had some hands on experienceusingtripods and lights. Most people were absolutely amazed at what their little cameras could doAnn discovered you could take movies, Rhoda discovered there was even a button that allowed you to take pictures of fireworks. How much better would her pictures of the New Year celebrations in Sydney have been if she’d known what setting to use.I had never used lights before to enhance a picture. I spent Thursday afternoon photographing wine bottles with stunning results.

Next week we will be learning how to take portraits. You never know, with a few air brushing techniques we might look like Claudia Schiffer or Cheryl Cole!

VISIT TO BISHOP AUCKLAND OPEN ART EXHIBITION

On Annette’s recommendation, I went to see the art exhibition in the town hall at Bishop Auckland. What talent there is in County Durham.  Sue had a couple of pictures in the exhibition and I noticed that her cute little picture of a CV car had a sold sticker on it. Well done Sue.

The winner was a portrait of a horse in watercolour. It showed very good artistic skills but I thought it was a bit too perfect. I much preferred the mixed media picture by John Montague of a waterfall in the Duddon Valley. I hadn’t realised that the exhibition was much more than just paintings. There was stained glass, pottery and photography. If you can get along before it closes, it’s worth a visit. Also Bishop is worth a visit anyway – it must have the largest number of charity shops in the area!
